At Home Expands Retail Footprint
Home décor and furnishings retailer At Home has opened five stores so far this month. The new stores include two in Washington and one each in Arizona, South Dakota and Ohio. Pier 1 Imports Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
Home décor and furniture retailer Pier 1 Imports has commenced Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the US. It has entered into a plan support agreement with a majority of its term loan lenders. The retailer intends to pursue the sale of its business and also expects to complete previously announced closures—up to 450 stores and two distribution centers—during this process.
Coresight Research insight: Pier 1 Imports has struggled in recent years with declining store revenues in the face of intense competition from e-commerce retailers such as Amazon, Etsy and Wayfair, as well as physical outlets such as Home Goods. Pier 1 Imports had commenced a three-year strategic turnaround plan in 2018, which involved making changes to product sourcing, merchandising, digital marketing, pricing and store design, but this has not proved successful in terms of reviving its business.
Rodd & Gunn To Open Two Stores
New Zealand-based menswear retailer Rodd & Gunn has announced plans to open two stores in California this year, which will bring its total US store count to 10. The new stores, which will be located at Westfield Valley Fair shopping mall and Broadway Plaza, will open in March and July respectively.
Wren Kitchens To Debut in the US
British retailer Wren Kitchens plans to open its first US store in Milford, Connecticut, this summer. The retailer also plans to open more stores in Northeast US in addition to a manufacturing facility in Northeast Pennsylvania this year.
