Belsham to Join Jet.com This Week

On Monday, Walmart-owned Jet.com announced to employees that it has appointed Simon Belsham as President. He will join the company this week, succeeding Liza Landsman, who recently announced plans to leave Jet.com. Belsham was CEO of British Internet pure play NotOnTheHighStreet.com from 2015 to 2017. Prior to that, he was Managing Director of Grocery Online at UK grocery market leader Tesco for two years. He previously held other senior management roles at Tesco and was Director of Non-Food at UK grocery pure play Ocado from 2011 to 2013. President and CEO of Walmart US E-Commerce Marc Lore cited Belsham’s grocery experience when he announced the appointment to employees. In an internal memo reported by Reuters, Lore said,“With Jet grocery being an integral part of the strategy, Simon brings incredible experience in scaling grocery delivery and his unique background in converging technology and retail to create amazing experiences for customers.” The move comes amid heightened competition in the US online grocery market: Target acquired Shipt and subsequently rolled out same-day delivery from Target stores,Amazon bought Whole Foods Market, and retailers including Walmart and Kroger have opened many new collection points for online grocery orders. On Walmart’s fourth-quarter earnings call in February, CEO Doug McMillon noted that Jet.com attracts “higher-income, urban, millennial customers.”
