This is the sixth report in our Ten Days of Holiday Innovators series, which offers daily profiles of innovative companies offering distinctive holiday-suitable gifts. In this report, we look at Biovaj Skincare, a clean beauty brand. According to the Prosper Insights & Analytics holiday survey, 19.2% of all adults over 18 would like to receive personal care or beauty items, and millennials are particularly interested in receiving beauty and cosmetics gifts, with 26.2% of those aged 18-34 responding that they would like to receive personal care or beauty items as holiday gifts.

Biovaj Skincare is a clean beauty brand which makes all of its products from 100% pure, natural, and organic ingredients. All its products are made with no fillers, parabens, chemicals, additives, preservatives, colors, alcohol, toxins, fragrances, petrochemicals or mineral oils. Biovaj’s packaging is made of 100% recyclable material sourced from companies that are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. The FSC promotes environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically prosperous management of the world's forests. The companies that it certifies follow responsible forest management practices and procedures that prohibit deforestation, respect native cultures, prevent illegal logging and limits clear cutting (most or all of the trees in an area are cut).

Biovaj skincare ingredients are all naturally sourced and use botanical oils such as almond oil, apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, argan oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, castor oil, black cumin seed oil, rose water and orange blossom water. The company’s products are vegan-certified, cruelty free (not tested on animals) and are all non-GMO (does not use genetically modified organisms).

According to Persistence Market Research, the global natural and organic beauty market is expected to nearly double in size from 2016 to 2024, from $11 billion to $21.8 billion. Products carrying natural claims represented 2.1% of the US personal care market and generated $230 million in sales in 2013, but by 2017 that had grown to 3.1% of the US personal care market and generated $1.3 billion in sales, according to Nielsen. According to Euromonitor International research published in the third quarter of 2018, nearly 25% of US consumers look for skincare products with all-natural ingredients, while 17% want cruelty free and/or vegan products, 17% fragrance-free products, and 16% products with “free from” claims.

Biovaj products were used by makeup artists for selected models including Jade Roselle during New York Fashion Week this year. Biovaj was also used by actress Gwendoline Christie who stars in the series Game of Thrones and Star Wars.
