Jason Goldberger, Target’s Chief Digital Officer and President of Target.com, departed the company late last week. He had been appointed to the newly created position of Chief Digital Officer in May. Goldberger first joined the company in 2013 after having previously worked at Amazon, Hayneedle and Gilt Groupe. Goldberger’s departure follows that of Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Jones in recent weeks. Jones left the company, effective September 9, to become President of Uber. Goldberger’s departure seems abrupt, particularly given the upcoming, all-important holiday season. Target’s e-commerce sales growth slowed to 16% in the most recent quarter, down from 30% in the year-ago period. Goldberger’s responsibilities will be divided between Chief Information Officer Mike McNamara and Chief Merchandising Officer Mark Tritton. McNamara will take over digital responsibilities while Tritton will handle pricing and promotions.
