The Walt Disney Company (Disney) has announced plans to team up with Target to open shop-in-shops to sell Disney products at 25 Target stores nationwide beginning October 4, 2019, with an additional 40 by October 2020. Target will operate the Disney stores, to located near the children’s clothing and toys sections. Products from the Disney shop in shops will also be available online and via the Target app.
The shop in shops will be an average of 750 square feet and sell over 450 Disney products with price ranges from $2 to $200. The assortment includes apparel, home and holiday-specific products, toys and collectible items – and more than 100 products previously exclusive to Disney retail stores.
Target will incorporate music, interactive displays, photo opportunities and a seating area that shows Disney movie clips and Disney park events to create a more family-friendly shopping experience.
In 2021, Target will open a new store at Flamingo Crossings Town Center, to be located at the western entrance of the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
We are seeing a trend of more retailers forming collaborations with companies in different industries to generate buzz and drive foot fall. The Target-Disney is only the latest example. Other notables include Kohl’s and Amazon, Madewell and Lively, Nordstrom and Topshop, Nike and Levi’s. Coresight Research expects to see more innovative partnerships such as this in the future.
