What’s the Story?
The peak of Singles’ Day 2021 (also known as the 11.11 Global Shopping Festival)—the second official sales period—took place on November 11. In this report, we discuss promotions from around the world, including North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Coresight Research has leaned on its global analyst teams to compile examples of online and in-store deals.
Why It Matters
Originating in China, Singles’ Day is the largest shopping festival in the world and has expanded in recent years across both online and offline channels. This year, Chinese e-commerce giants Alibaba and JD.com reported GMV of $84.7 billion and $54.7 billion, respectively. Many brands and retailers globally participated in the event this year, helping to cement Singles’ Day as an international shopping event.

Deals and discounts varied greatly between retailers but were predominantly offered by online platforms. We saw many promotions centered around the number 11 for the 11.11 festival.
The US and Canada
In the US and Canada, Singles’ Day coincides with Veterans Day/Remembrance Day (and it is Remembrance Day in a number of European countries, too), which presents a disadvantage to scaling a shopping festival on this date. However, brands and retailers with a presence in these markets used the 11.11 festival to offer early holiday promotions to consumers, pre-empting Black Friday on November 26, 2021.
  • Beauty and luxury
    • Korean skincare brand Erborian offered $10 discounts for its US consumers on orders worth $45 and over. The sale ran from November 9 to November 11.
