As consumers continue to spend more time indoors amid the Covid-19 pandemic, home and home-improvement retailers will have a strong holiday season, driven by home décor and home-improvement sales. A recent Coresight Research survey indicated that, of the US consumers planning to switch holiday spending from services to products this year, nearly 26% would spend on home goods, kitchenware and furnishings.
Coresight Research estimates that food retail purchases will account for a substantial one-quarter of total US holiday retail sales, which will benefit retailers with a strong focus on the food and beverage segment. Kroger is investing in increasing its warehouse capacity and adding more holiday-oriented inventory to accommodate additional demand compared to past holiday seasons.
Discount chains will maintain their solid run into the holiday season, attracting a broad base of budget-conscious customers amid the economic uncertainty. Dollar General said that it has added additional holiday merchandise inventory in light of expectations of higher demand.
