- On a comparable basis, Coresight Research has tracked a 54.4% year-over-year increase in announced holiday hiring plans compared to the 2020 holiday season—and a 24.4% increase over pre-pandemic 2019—by retailers and allied sectors such as logistics companies.
- Walmart makes up the bulk of the increase, with plans to hire 170,000 seasonal employees this year compared to the 20,000 hires in 2020.
- Department stores are also seeing an increase in announced seasonal job openings after cutting seasonal hires in 2020.
