Estée Lauder Announces Global Leadership Promotions at Two of Its Billion-Dollar Brands and Two of Its Developing Brands

Estée Lauder is a New York-based global manufacturer of skin care, makeup, fragrance and hair care products founded in 1946 with a beauty portfolio of over 25 prestige brands spanning cosmetics, skincare, haircare and fragrances and with annual revenues totaling $14.9 billion in FY19. The company has grown revenues at a 6.3% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the past five years, due in part to skincare and makeup acquisitions and investments in new brands, as well as efforts to grow its heritage brands globally. Estée Lauder management announced global leadership changes at four of its global brands, two of which have annual net sales over one billion dollars. Estée Lauder Promotes Global Brand Presidents for Billion-Dollar Brands La Mer and MAC Cosmetics The company’s brand portfolio includes four brands with net sales of over $1 billion: La Mer, Clinique, Estée Lauder and MAC Cosmetics, as shown in Figure 1.   • Justin Boxford was promoted to Global Brand President of the La Mer brand. Boxford led the La Mer brand as Global General Manager for three years, helping to lead the brand to over $1 billion in net sales in fiscal 2018. He will continue reporting to Sandra Main, Global Brand President, Bobbi Brown and La Mer. Boxford joined La Mer with experience in Asian markets and consumers after spending over 10 years leading both the flagship Estée Lauder brand and Tom Ford Beauty internationally and in Asia Pacific.
  • Philippe Pinatel has been promoted to Global Brand President at MAC Cosmetics, where he previously served as Senior Vice President and Global General Manager. Pinatel is credited with leading the brand’s strategic direction and vision, and with creating a strong management team which has led a turnaround. Pinatel has more than 20 years global retail and beauty experience. He led several key functions at Birchbox, including merchandising, retail, operations and international as President and Chief Operations Officer. Pinatel previously served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Sephora Canada and Vice President and General Manager of Sephora Inside JCPenney. Pinatel will continue to lead transformation efforts at MAC, maintaining a focus on evolving the brand’s culture and organizational model.
Estée Lauder Announces Leadership Changes at Developing Brands Le Labo, Dr. Jart+ and Do The Right Thing Estée Lauder has grown revenues at a 6.3% CAGR over the past five years due, in part due to skincare and makeup acquisitions and investments in new brands. In October 2014, the company acquired Le Labo, a company that makes perfumes and fragrances, and more recently in December 2019 the company acquired Have & Be Co, the Seoul-based skincare company behind Dr. Jart+ (Doctor Joins Art) and men’s grooming brand Do The Right Thing. The company announced leadership changes at these brands.
  • Deborah Royer has been promoted to Global Brand President and Chief Creative Officer of Le Labo, where she served as Global General Manager and Chief Creative Officer since 2015. The company reported that Le Labo experienced double-digit global growth under Royer’s leadership, that the brand developed new capabilities, partnerships and categories, and expanded globally. Before joining Estée Lauder in 2015, Royer held roles at L’Oréal developing designer perfume brands as well as at her privately owned company, a Paris-based fashion line called Piece d’Anarchive.
  • Christopher Wood has been named President, North Asia of Dr. Jart+ and Do The Right Thing. Wood has more than 30 years of global experience in prestige cosmetics. Since 2018, Wood has served as Senior Vice President, Asia/Pacific, responsible for markets including Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and emerging Southeast Asia countries. Wood will take on brand leadership responsibilities following the completion of Estée Lauder’s acquisition of Have & Be Co. Ltd.
