There was certainly a lot of hype surrounding the launch of Amazon's Prime Day, the big online sales day that the company announced on July 6 and which we previewed in our "Amazon Prime Day" report on July 14.
The sales event, ongoing at the time of this report, is a global shopping day exclusively for Amazon Prime members who were promised new deals every 10 minutes through the day on July 15.
Besides making headlines, Amazon's inititative drew a strong response from Walmart, which announced a rival sale to be launched on the same day as Prime Day.
Hours after both events started, some of the "hot" deals on both companies' websites are listed on the following page of this report.
Apart from the selected items, the remaining deals on Amazon and Walmart were mostly on everyday items and jewelry, which so far seems to leave many of the customers who were in anticipation of the events with little to shop for. This has resulted in a backlash on social media, where shoppers have expressed their disappointment with the deals available to them.
We will keep you posted with the progress of Amazon;s Prime Day and the first day of Walmart's sale event. Amazon has marketed Prime day as "More Deals Than Black Friday" and has promised customers new deals every 10 minutes, but with the initial diappointing selection of items, is there anything better to come?
